Headteacher's Fortnightly Update - 14th November
It gives me great pleasure to start this update with the news that Sargeant Moreno was selected to captain the Wales National Under 15 Football team in a tournament recently. It is a huge honour for him and his family and indeed, us as a school and community. Sargeant’s brother Paul is currently representing Wales at Under 17 level and we wish him the best of luck in those games.
The last fortnight has once again been busy with trips to the theatre, sporting fixtures (including bus breakdowns) and literacy trips and activities. We are also launching a ski trip for pupils as we continue to strive to provide as many wider and extra-curricular activities as possible to enhance and enrich the experience pupils gain.
Today, we have come together to raise awareness and money for Children in Need through activities led by our Senior Prefect team. Despite the awful weather we have enjoyed activities during form time and at break and lunch.
Over the last fortnight we have been meeting with pupils to get their views on the school, what is going well and things they enjoy and also how they feel the school can improve. We have had some fantastic contributions, clearly demonstrating the commitment and engagement of our pupils to achieve excellence. They have all been an absolute pleasure to speak to and have provided some excellent insights for us to work on.
Thank you again to those picking up and dropping off for considering how important maintaining safety at the beginning and end of every day is. Please remember to use the bus bay or the overflow car park to turn cars round and avoid stopping on bends.
Attendance remains a key priority for us. Please remember that school begins at 8:40, pupils should be at their form room before that time. We have improved form time in all year groups to ensure the sessions are suitable and support pupils to make a good start to the day. It is important that pupils attend these sessions.
We have noticed an increase in pupils using mobile phones in the school, we have had such a positive impact on the whole environment since introducing the full ban and we are very keen to make sure our standards remain high. Please remind your children that phones should not be visible at any time. Should pupils need to use their phone they should speak to a member of staff in advance who can organise something with them.
Lastly for this week, it is an INSET day on Monday 24th November, the school will be closed to all pupils on this day.
Kindest Regards,
Mr D Lawlor
Headteacher
